Adult Education

RUMC continuously provides many opportunities for adults to continue their education in the church. Contact Larry Travis for more information about any of these programs.

  • JAMES – Faith that Works

We all want a faith that won’t let us down in times of trouble or loss, uncertainty or fear. A faith that can pull us through the worst and best of times in our lives. This is the kind of faith that James writes about. Join us for this 9 week study of the entire book of James in the north end of Fellowship Hall on Sunday, January 10th at 9:30. Some minimal reading before class is recommended, but not required.

  • CHRISTIAN CHARACTER – Compassion, humility, faith and perseverance.

We long for the beauty of Christ to be reflected in our lives. Such character comes only as the Spirit of God transforms us through the Word of God. Join us for this 12 week bible based study that will help you become the person God wants you to be in the Adult Ed. Rm. 205 on Sunday, January 10th at 9:30. Some minimal reading before class is recommended, but not required.

  • Wednesday Night Study of The Shack

"In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant, The Shack wrestles with the timeless question, 'Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?' The answers Mack gets will astound you, and perhaps transform you, as much as it did him."

The Shack is one of the most talked-about, most read, most discussed, and most life-transforming books I have ever encountered! And, this fall, on Wednesday nights, at 6:30, Jan and I will be leading a new 20's-30's Young Adult Class on this book. The Young Adult Class will be in the Kitchen-end of the Fellowship Hall. Note: The adult class has concluded, but the Young Adult Class with the Rileys will continue after the new year.

If you are willing to wrestle with the concepts of where Tragedy confronts Eternity -- if you are willing to have the door of your soul blown wide open -- then this study is for you!

Come and join us for dinner each Wednesday night, between 5:30-6:30, and then join us from 6:30-7:30 for this study that will both astound you and transform you --

    The Shack!

  • Wednesday Night Study of Esther by Beth Moore

Beth looks at the Old Testament story of Esther as a profile in courage and contains many modern parallels for today’s woman. Going up against heavyweights bent on her destruction, Esther trusted God and landed a blow that saved her people. Esther’s destiny can be yours as you know more deeply the God who is in your corner. Join Beth for a 10 week, in depth and very personal examination of this great story of threat and deliverance. She peels back the layers of history and show how very contemporary and applicable the story of Esther is to our lives.. If you’ve ever felt inadequate, threatened, or pushed into situations that seemed overpowering, this is the study for you. Just as it was tough being a woman in Esther’s day, it’s tough today. This portion of God’s Word contains treasurers to aid us in our hurried, harried and pressured lives. Beth’s goal for this study is to let God heal our world-torn souls and make us experience His security in our reality. This is a 10 week class and would be a great study for a woman that has never participated in a Bible study or one that has been a part of many. • Wednesday Night Study of Timothy and Titus – Do What You Have Heard

Do you feel like the world presents you with more problems than you can handle? Timothy and Titus faced all of these tough issues as young church leaders. But Paul encouraged them to put aside timidity and insecurity, and to find strength in Christ. In 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus we also find the support we need to follow through in obedience to God’s Word. Class will be held on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.
