Our Rockford United Methodist Church Family is providing care, prayer, support, and fellowship through the Care Ministry Team. The Team also develops and maintains ministries which welcome, assimilate and support visitors and members of RUMC. These groups are always open to new participants. For more information, contact Care Ministry at (616) 866-9515 or care@rockfordumc.org for information on the following groups:

Prayer Ministry Team

I John 5:14-15 "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of him."

Prayers requested for church members, their families, and others who seek God's healing and understanding love. We have an email and prayer chain. If you’d like to become a member or have a prayer request please contact care@rockfordumc.org

Casserole Patrol (Martha Ministry)

This ministry team provides short-term and emergency meals for the RUMC family. This ministry team provides occasional meals. In general, the services offered are meant to meet emergency and short-term needs. If you or your family needs help, contact care@rockfordumc.org

Driving Team

This ministry team provides short-term and emergency transportation for the RUMC family. This ministry team provides occasional meals. In general, the services offered are meant to meet emergency and short-term needs. If you or your family needs help, contact care@rockfordumc.org.
People Needed: If your feel called to drive individuals to appointments or the store either on a on call basis or have a person that you always help, please contact Susan – care@rockfordumc.org

Visitation Ministries

This ministry team provides visitations, phone calls and support to those individuals who no longer driving, who shut-in, whether permanent or temporary. We do this through listening, talking, and praying with and for these individuals. The Pastors and Staff visit the sick that are known to us in area hospitals each week. It is very important for our members to indicate their church preference upon admission to the hospital in order for us to know of your hospitalization. We very much want to care for you, so please call.
People Needed: If your feel called to work with individuals who are aging and can no longer get out and about. Home Bound ministers visit in homes, assisted living centers and nursing homes please contact Susan – care@rockfordumc.org

Card Writers

This ministry allows our members to write notes with caring hearts and willing hands to special people-those who are homebound, those who have babies, those who are in the hospital, those who have experienced a death and the list goes on. If you would like someone to get a note, or you would like to write notes yourself, please contact Susan, Care@rockfordumc.org Note cards and postage are provided. If you have note cards that you’d like to provide for this ministry, please bring them to the church office.

Food Sharing:

Bring your food items and place them in the barrel in the narthex. We are a drop-off site and regularly bring food to the North Kent Service Center. All items must be non-perishable (cans of soup, vegetables, boxes of cereal, muffin mixes, etc). This is an easy way to help our community members.

Ministry to the Bereaved

Our pastors are on call to care, comfort, offer consolation and compassion to the dying and their families. They also are available for assistance with funerals. There are two lay ministries within the church, Barnabas and Good Samaritans which offer assistance and encouragement during time of grief. Good Samaritans often assist families with a prepared meal given by lay persons in the church.

Kids’s HOPE

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Whether they are called Prayer Shawls, Comfort Shawls, Peace Shawls, or Mantles, etc., the shawl maker begins with prayers and blessings for the recipient. The intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. Upon completion, a final blessing is offered before the shawl is sent on its way. Some recipients have continued the kindness by making a shawl and passing it onto someone in need. Thus, the blessing ripples from person-to-person, with both the giver and receiver feeling the unconditional embrace of a sheltering, mothering God! Directions to knit.
(*The shawls can also be crocheted, quilted, woven or machine knitted as well!)

Friends to Friends

Friends 2 friends has been organized as a way for women of our church to get
to know each other a little better and for each of us to get to spend a
little time each day in devotion and prayer. This is a no pressure group,
it is up to each person to do as much or as little as they want to develop
friendships and time in devotion. Call Judy Mayhak at 540-1099 or e-mail
judy@judymayhak.com for more information.

If you have a need that you believe the Congregational Care Ministry can meet, please feel free to call our church office at (616) 866-9515

If you have a suggestion on how our church can serve you or your family, please email the Care Ministries Director at care@rockfordumc.org

Center life consists of morning devotions,
breakfast, making sack lunches, showers, dinner, chores, evening
gatherings (singing praise songs, doing devotionals, culture night, and
family picnic), ice cream!, playing Euchre, writing notes for Warm&Fuzzy
Bags, socializing, etc. Some of these pictures depict such events.

In addition to five crews, RUMC also had two floaters (Ruth Reickard and
Bob Shoemaker standing in front of Brooke Kaule's truck). They
delivered supplies to each crew every day, made hardware store runs,
took pictures, worked at a different site each afternoon, etc.

Each Center has 4 or 5 staff members who help coordinate the volunteers
for eight weeks each summer. Centers typically are in schools (so
school cooks prepare the meals for the volunteers), but this last year
was a year-round ASP Center (Guyan Valley, WV). There were two crews
from Illinois and three crews from North Carolina also at the Center.

ASP is a week spent serving in God's country - making Disciples for
Jesus Christ

Thank you everyone for supporting such a worthwhile ministry!!
